Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment can I rent at Coco Surf? How do I choose my board?

You can rent Softech brand foam boards, which are among the top three on the market. All sizes and widths are available, there's definitely a board that suits you!

Either you have some experience and remember your favorite board size, or the instructor advises you at the time of booking. This depends on your level and size.

To get an idea, here are the frequently recommended board sizes based on age and/or height. They are expressed in feet and inches. Get your calculators ready!

6’0 « roller »Children aged 5 to 7 or good surfers
6’6 « roller »Children aged 7 to 11 or good surfers
7’0 « roller »Preschool children aged 10 to 13
7’0 large « zeppelin » ou 7’6 « roller »Teenagers, lightweight women or advanced surfers
7’6 large « zeppelin »Adolescents, adults, between 55 and 75 kg (this is an estimate!)
8’0 « roller »Large surfers or intermediate level surfers wanting length
8’0 large « zeppelin »Novice surfers between 75 and 100 kg
9’0 « zeppelin »Beginner surfers over 100 kg

We also rent some resin boards (Evolving, Shortboard) and wetsuits (Quiksilver, O’neill and C-Skins) in all thicknesses, from 4 years old to XXL.

How do I book a rental?

  1. Call the school to organize the rental (choice of location, time, equipment) and ask your questions. If you're flexible, we can advise you on the best tides and beach access.
  2. Then fill out the registration form and pay online by credit card on the school's website.
  3. The rental is reserved upon registration and payment.
  4. Deposit an identity card or several of 3 surfers

How long does a rental last?

  • Either 2h30 (for a 1h45 session in the water, like a class)
  • either for the day or half a day (same price)
  • either for several days or even weeks (in these cases, substantial discount)

Can I rent on the same day? or how far in advance should I rent?

It is recommended to call 24 or 48 hours in advance to schedule your rental appointment to ensure you have the equipment and to get advice on locations, conditions, etc.
On the day itself, instructors may not be available or we may not be able to inform you of the location and time. But you can still call and ask!

Will the equipment be provided directly on the beach or in the parking lot? Do I need to carry my board to the spot?

It depends on several factors. In summer, you're very likely not to have to carry your board as the equipment is already at the beach. In spring and autumn, like our students, you must carry the equipment alone or in pairs from the car park to the spot (5-10 minutes). Don't panic, you can carry your board alone or in pairs from 12 years old!

Can I rent equipment if I've never surfed in my life?

It's best to take one or more lessons before renting equipment.
However, two scenarios are possible: you rent with other experienced people who advise you, know how to recognize and avoid dangers, or you practice alongside a Cocosurf course where the teacher keeps an eye on you for safety.
The second solution remains the best, because pay attention to the advice of your so-called "expert" friends. Knowing his level is one thing, but understanding a beach and its dangers perfectly and relating them to the level of your beginner friend is another. It's a surf teacher analysis!

Do explanations (location, danger, recommendations, etc.) before surfing benefit me?

If you are flexible out of season, Cocosurf can advise you on a day, location, and time suitable for waves that best suit your level.
In summer, you rent where Cocosurf gives its lessons. That has many advantages: the teacher shows you the right surf zone and essential safety rules. As for the technical part, since it's not a course, it's up to you to figure it out!

Do you rent winter wetsuits and/or summer wetsuits?

We rent 4mm winter jackets for the months of April, May and October and 3mm full-length winter jackets or 2mm shortys in June, July, August and September, depending on your preference and the day's temperature.

Why rent a foam board instead of a resin board?

It's a debate that divides and brings a lot of ink to flow! On one side are the purists, the family surf uncles who swear by handcrafted resin boards, and on the other side are the surf instructors concerned about your safety and progress.
We will try to summarize the matter and enlighten you with a small table about the advantages and disadvantages of each type of board. First information, there is no magic board!

Technical or safety pointsFoam boardResin board
WaxHardly or no needNeed all the time
InjuryWith foam and soft fins, you can't get hurtBruises, cuts and stings are waiting for you
Impact resistanceThe board withstands dents without breakingSince resin is "brittle," it often goes to the repair shop
RepairabilityYour board absorbs water and cannot be repairedRepairable
FlotationOn top, you can surf on foam or mini wavesIt's harder to surf on offshore waves
Maneuverability / tricksSlower turns due to thicknessQuick and nervous turns (for someone who can surf)
FunHandstand, sitting surfing, on the back, everything is possible!Limited to "serious" surfing
Surf to the beachYou can run aground on the beach without damaging the soft finsIf you go too far, your fins may break
Game resultFoamboard victory 6 to 2!

In summary, the ease and safety of a foam board undoubtedly outweighs until you can make turns on the smooth surface of a wave.

If you're a regular surfer with adequate level and in uncrowded spots where you feel safety is okay, the responsiveness of the resin board will be a delight.

But with friends, in foam, in crowded places or even fooling around, the foam board is indispensable, no matter what level the surfer is!
